Accessibility Statement
This page is maintained by The Ville CDC to describe our accessibility efforts for the Experience The Ville website and 1887 First Weekend events.
Our commitment
The Ville CDC believes that culture, community, and history should be accessible to everyone. We are working to make the Experience The Ville website and our July 4–5, 1887 First Weekend events usable by people with a wide range of abilities and disabilities.
This is an ongoing effort. We regularly review the site, listen to visitor feedback, and look for ways to improve navigation, readability, and compatibility with assistive technologies.
Accessibility standards we follow
Our goal is to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with visual, auditory, motor, cognitive, and neurological disabilities.
Achieving full conformance across every page and feature is a continuous process. We use automated testing, manual keyboard checks, and screen-reader reviews to identify and fix barriers.
What we are doing
- Using semantic HTML and ARIA landmarks so pages work well with screen readers.
- Adding visible focus indicators for keyboard navigation.
- Providing text alternatives for meaningful images and marking decorative images as hidden.
- Labeling form fields clearly and linking error messages to the inputs they describe.
- Designing pages with sufficient color contrast and resizable text.
- Offering a mobile-friendly navigation menu that works with touch, keyboard, and screen readers.
Request accommodations for events
We want everyone to enjoy the 1887 Night Market, Sunday Dinner, and The Founding of Freedom Town walking tour. If you need an accommodation for an event, please contact us in advance so we can do our best to assist.
You can reach us by email. We recommend contacting us as early as possible, especially for requests that may require advance planning.

Known limitations and third-party content
Some parts of the site rely on third-party services or embedded content, such as ticket vendors, payment processors, and event-registration forms. While we choose partners that support accessibility, we do not control every detail of their platforms.
If you encounter a barrier while using third-party content linked from our site, please let us know and we will work with you to find an alternative way to complete your request.
Feedback and reporting barriers
We welcome your feedback. If you experience difficulty accessing any part of the website or our events, please tell us what happened and how we can help.
Email thevillecdc@gmail.com with the page or activity you were trying to use, the device or assistive technology you were using, and a description of the barrier. We aim to respond within 3–5 business days.
Compatibility notes
The site is designed to work with modern browsers and assistive technologies, including screen readers such as NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver. For the best experience, we recommend keeping your browser and assistive technology up to date.
